The SiliconPipe team has a combination of high technology manufacturing, development, marketing, and test experience in domestic and international markets. The team applied for more than 100 patents since its inception. Members of the team have worked for large multi-nationals as well as in start-ups in a wide variety of semiconductor, communications and service provider companies.

Joseph Fjelstad
Founder & CEO

Silicon Pipe cofounder Joseph Fjelstad has more than 32 years of international experience in electronic interconnection and packaging technology. Prior to founding SiliconPipe, Mr. Fjelstad was with Pacific Consultants and Tessera Technologies, a global leader in chip-scale packaging. While at Tessera, he was appointed to the first corporate fellowship for his innovations. A prodigious inventor, his innovations for electronic interconnection products, medical devices and processes have thus far yielded more than 125 issued or pending US patents.

With a background in chemistry, Mr. Fjelstad has served in a variety of capacities over his career, including analytical chemist, manufacturing chemist, process engineer, quality manager, R&D manager and international consultant. Author, coauthor and editor of several books on electronic interconnection technologies, Mr. Fjelstad has also written more than 200 articles on electronics. He is a recipient of several awards, including the IPC President’s Award for his contributions to the IPC and electronics industries. During 2000, Mr. Fjelstad was also recognized as one of the most influential persons in the printed-circuit industry in a survey sponsored by PC FAB magazine. He remains active in the IPC and its projects as a member of the National Electronics Roadmap Committee and the JISSO International Committee.

Gary Yasumura
Research and Development Engineering

Mr. Yasumura has more than 30 years experience as a consulting engineer, design engineer, and engineering manager in Silicon Valley. Before joining Silicon Pipe, he was Director of Electromechanical Packaging at Pemstar Pacific Consultants where he managed and designed products such as wearable computers, medical devices and custom connectors and cables. Prior to Pemstar, Mr. Yasumura was Vice President of Engineering at a startup company, Beta Phase, which specialized in connector designs utilizing shape memory alloys. During his career, he has been involved in every phase of engineering from invention, product conception, product design and simulation, prototyping, manufacturing and quality assurance. Mr. Yasumura holds 12 patents in the electronic connector, high frequency interconnects and microwave circuit-packaging fields. He has a BS in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University and a MS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. He holds a Professional Engineer’s license from the state of California.
